Homefront Hugs,

Thank you very much for sending all of the wonderful care packages filled with coffee, snacks, and supportive letters. I want you to know that the troops here really appreciate it. We have many wounded that come through the hospital and I want you to know they receive the cards you make and the goods you send. Your support is appreciated and needed.

Alessandra always leaves a note that says, "Let us know if you need anything." One thing we could really use is a coffee grinder!! We receive all the wonderful Starbucks coffee beans, but have no way of grinding the beans. If we could get a coffee bean grinder that would be awesome!!!! Oh, and possibly some sort of basket or something to put all the candy in? Thank you!!!!

Thank you Homefront Hugs!!!!

Very Respectfully,

Kristina M. Decot, SrA, USAF
Chaplain Assistant
AFTH Chapel

OPERATION HEALING ANGEL AT HOMEFRONT HUGS

JOIN US AS WE SEND HUGS TO OUR WOUNDED AND THE HEROIC TROOPS WHO CARE FOR THEM EVERY DAY...

Join us as we send hugs to our wounded and heroic troops (the medical staff) who care for them every day and save lives.... It began when a hero medic named Captain Neese from Alabama, stationed at Landstuhl hospital in Germany, contacted us through his mother, asking for some support for his wounded troops.

woundcareOHA.jpg

We had already been sending hugs to the Tampa VA and Tripler VA in Hawaii  knowing they had been forgotten and this is where many of our most seriously injured troops went. Many of these troops suffered injuries from IEDs and ended up with traumatic brain injuries or worse requiring long-term care.

We have been one step ahead of the media blitz which has occurred this month and are hoping that many new volunteers join us as they realize how much support is needed.

This February 2007, we added one more combat hospital to our list in the thick of the war zone, thanks to a USAF Captain at Hurlburt Special Operations Base in Navarre, Florida. Aim High ! Now we have the largest combat hospital thanks to a USAF Major who entrusted us with this assignment just this November 2007. You are needed.

For security reasons, OPSEC, we are not releasing the location or name of this busy hospital but will add that they are thrilled that we are going to adopt them and send support asap.

YOU ARE NEEDED AS WE ADOPT THIS NEW and largest COMBAT HOSPITAL IN IRAQ.

All this USAF hero asked is that these wounded heroes and their staff not be forgotten even after he returned to the USA and to send support as soon as possible .

And they already sent us photos of thanks with emails:

To everyone at Homefront Hugs!!!!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your donations.  I have been distributing them to the staff and the patients where I work.  The candy is always gone in a minute.  Something that we could use is some work gloves for our volunteers.  I work at the CASF (contingincy Aeromedical Staging Facility).  Our job is to take care of the wounded soldiers, Marines and Airmen when they are getting ready to leave the country.  The work is very rewarding to all of us.  The reason for the gloves is when we take the patients to the flight line on litters we are required to wear work gloves (mechanic) to transport the litters with the patients on them.  All of the staff should have gloves, but we have many volunteers from other parts of the base that come and help us after their shifts.

Again thank you for all you are doing for us.  It is greatly appreciated by all.

SrA Mackenzie Schroeder - Iraq

Note from Homefront Hugs Prez Alessandra : If anyone can help send money to us or donate actual gloves sizes M,L and XL work gloves- please let us know...we will add this to our list of needs ...and are delighted they responded the moment they received packages from us!It brought tears and a smile. Thanks to all of you we can keep their morale high.

YOU WILL FIND A LIST OF NEEDS BELOW. PLEASE JUST DO WHAT YOU CAN!

Adopt your adorable duck today !  Who says we are ever too old for our rubber duckies? Each duck costs $3.00 to  send to a wounded hero.

We personalize each duck with your name on their bottom belly " A Homefront Hug from..." and you can add up to a 6 word message in blue, red, purple or black or an email address.

We can just imagine the looks on the faces of our heroes when they get these and the smiles these ducks will trigger ! This is our new program and the money is used to help send the other goodies Operation Healing Angel needs for postage. And if you cannot imagine- keep scrolling and just look at the photos our nurses sent us back from Iraq and the mailboxes !!

Just email us with the subject " Adopt a Duck" and let us know how many and what you wish inscribed on each duck.

OHAPOSTERHugs07.jpg

Above is the first poster set sent to our newly adopted American combat hospital in Iraq. For security reasons we cannot share which one, but it does not matter . Our support is unconditional.

One note: If you send items besides cards...please include if you can some postage money for us to send these on to our troops...we usually send things in the flat rate boxes for $8.95 which can be filled full and cost the same rate no matter how heavy. We accept Paypal as well through HomefrontHugsUSA@aol.com if that is easier for you.

We are now a public charity and we always have to find a way to ship these goodies to the troops with the help of volunteers and supporters. So far, after 5 years, with God's help, we always have. BringaSmileAdoptHugs07.jpg

Remember, another super way to help- is to adopt a lovely duck or two to send to a wounded hero and bring a Homefront Hug!

You can adopt one duck for $3 or 10 for $25 with your own 5-6 word message and email or name on its belly which we inscribe.

They are ready and waiting to serve ....

A recent May update on our combat hospital in Iraq...the duckies are there bringing smiles every day and filling mailboxes:

" Dear Everyone at Homefront Hugs,

As my tour comes to an end I just wanted to extend another thank you for all the care packages that you have sent to myself, my coworkers and the men and women who come through the CASF here daily.  Your gifts, thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.  If you choose to continue sending packages I will let the next group know that they can open them and send you a new POC .  Thank you again.  You will never know how much your gifts and the knowledge that people in the states are there for us help.

SrA Schroeder "

(  Nurse Schroeder is about to become an aunt and has missed her two puppies and her home state of Minnesota where she will be returning  for a while until redeployed again. She distributed all or packages and goodies and cards and was overwhelmed at how much all of you cared not only for our wounded...but the doctors and nurses like her who tried to keep them alive and stable sometimes for days until they could be transported  out if needed. She is one of those warriors behind the scenes in the combat hospitals who serve this country with honor, love, dedication and courage for her fellow brothers and sisters in arms. She has humbled me with her continuous thanks and emails every time any item was received. )

Special thanks too to DISNEY - new pictures soon of what they have been up to under the direction of one of our newest passionate volunteers- Dawn ....of Orlando...!!

You can also help by donating any amount of money even 5 dollars to help with postage and items needed for our wounded...
